This amount of waste can impact food security, resource conservation and climate change. Knowing how long foods keep, and the best ways to store them, can help limit food waste.
Like many perishable foods, a few simple steps can help extend the life and quality of your eggs:
- Proper Refrigeration: Store eggs at 40°F on an inside shelf of the refrigerator versus the in the refrigerator door. The temperature on an inside shelf is more constant than the door.
Did you know? Refrigerating eggs helps maintain egg quality, too! An egg ages more in one day at room temperature than three months in the refrigerator.
- Keep eggs in the carton: The egg carton helps prevent moisture loss and also protects the eggs from pungent odors.
